White sheets with a high thread count are very soft, comfortable and long lasting but one problem that most people face with their sheets is that they turn yellow with time and usage. Normal washing won’t restore the whiteness of bedsheet.
Here’s how you can prevent the yellowing of white bed sheets.
Always read the care label of bed sheet before washing, some bed sheets are not made to be washed with bleach or with any liquid detergent that contains bleaching agent.
Wash your white bed sheets with only other white sheets.
Don’t use very hot water to wash your sheets, it can also fade the whiteness of your sheets.
Wash your bed sheets with enzyme-containing liquid detergents.
Always rinse your bed sheets thoroughly with cold water to remove the trapped salts, detergent or any other harmful substance from the fibers of bed sheet.
Wash your sheets regularly to maintain the whiteness.
Methods To Fix Yellowed Bed Sheets
If your bed sheets have already turned yellow then following methods can be adopted to fix the yellow sheets and regain their whiteness.
Use Baking Soda and Vinegar
The bleach available in market are sometime too strong for bed sheets and you should not use them for yellowed sheets. You can use mixture of baking soda and vinegar instead.
Take 1/2 cup of baking soda and mix it with 1/2 cup of vinegar. Now add the solution directly into your wash along with suitable detergent. The solution of vinegar and baking soda is very effective at removing oil and grease and in restoring the whiteness of your sheets.
Sun Drying Bed Sheets
Easiest and natural way to bleach your bed sheet is to dry them in sun light. Sunlight helps brighten the white sheets.
Another natural remedy is to put your sheets in a pot of water with few slices of lemon. Lemon is also a natural bleaching agent with almost zero side effects. Put your pot on the stove and let the water boil, once water starts boiling turn off the stove and let your sheets soak in the lemon water for sometime. Then rinse your sheets with cold water.
